Private parts prediction

That's it. The anticipation is killing me. I want to know if it's a boy or a girl NOW.

To be quite honest, it's making it hard to concentrate on anything else. We were supposed to find out Monday, but thanks to a "scheduling conflict," we had to move our appointment to Friday. And can I tell you how completely unfair that is to do to an expectant mother who is having trouble sleeping already? My mind is working overload at night. If someone at my doctor's office was to call me back and make me reschedule again, they would find one berserk woman in elastic holed up in an exam room trying to wield the ultrasound equipment on herself.

I don't care what anyone says about "how few surprises there are left in life," in effort to encourage me to wait to find out until the delivery room. They're full of crap. If they don't think it's going to be just as much of a surprise now, I'd like to pop them into my neural folds for a day.

It's like Christmas in there. And not just any Christmas. The one when I was about 6 years old and couldn't wait to find out if Santa brought me Barbie's Dream House. And every night I closed my eyes and pictured myself playing with the little plastic elevator pulley and putting all Barbie's clothes in the closet in her room and setting up her pony outside, maybe even making a little pasture out of an old green bath towel -- you know, for effect.

It feels that good.

Six-year-old Christmas good.

Barbie Dream House good.

Everyone says most women's inclination is fairly accurate when it comes to the gender of their baby, but maybe I'm just not that tuned in. Or maybe I'm just so excited to have either one that I can't concentrate on what my gut is telling me. Some days I stand back in the room that will become the nursery and envision a little boy spraying pee straight up at Jerry while he tries to change his diaper. (I'm trying to be realistic, after all.) Other days I see me wrestling with a screaming little girl who just puked all over her adorable pink outfit.

Because Jerry and I haven't been able to talk about much else, we've been polling our family, friends and coworkers. So far, most have put their tally in the boy column, but I'm not completely convinced.

Just for fun, I'd like to do the same here. If you want to go on record, feel free to leave your vote with your name. If you just want your vote to be counted, but don't need the prestige of being correct, a simple "boy" or "girl" anonymously will do.

I have faith in you, Internet. I honestly believe that your talents reach far and wide and that you can correctly predict the gender of this baby.

Have at it.

I'm going with GIRL!

One thing to think about. Sometimes not telling everyone else what its going to be can actually behoove you, if you plan on having more than one. It you tell everyone its a girl...then you are going to be inundated with cute, pink girl outfits and toys, etc. Then when you have a boy next time around...all that cute pink girly stuff is going straight to good will. :) If you don't tell everyone...you tend to get yellows and greens and colors that tend to be less engendered-by the cultural standards of the western world anyway.

Just a thought...

My mom was absolutely convinced I was going to be a boy. Had dreams I was going to be a boy even. When the doctor said "It's a girl" my mom was shocked.

I don't care what you have - I just wish for a happy, healthy baby.

I just hope your hopes aren't dashed by a bashful baby. If they can't see between the legs on the ultrasound... you've got another 4 months or so to go!!

Girl. When the last few people in my family had kids, we used a lunar calendar to predict what it would be since we've heard they are pretty accurate. Hasn't been wrong yet.

100% sure it's a GIRL!

I'm one of those weird people who will wait to find out in the delivery room. I do think it's one of those last good surprises in life. But I definitely get why people find out early.

Normally I get a feeling about the sex (I have yet to be wrong). I didn't get that feeling across the internet but I'm going with BOY anyway. :)

Boy. Definately boy.

BOY

I was convinced that ours was a boy. We went to the ultrasound, didn't find out, but there was one accidental spread-eagle shot that screamed girl... We still won't know until delivery day, but now I'm not so sure about my instinct... Could go either way! I can't wait to read all about your ultrasound and see pictures!

You're having a girl. I just KNOW it. And if I'm wrong, then obviously I was just joking and you're definitely having a boy.

We aren't getting our Level II ultrasound until 7/2, and we couldn't wait that long to find out what we're having. Therefore about three weeks ago we had a sonogram done and...the baby had its knees pressed together, its ankles crossed and didn't move!!!!! Went in two weeks later and found out it's a little girl. (And we're soooo thrilled!!!)
Anyway, we aren't telling the tech at the doctor's office what the lady at the other place said; we'll just wait and see if they agree.
Good luck, I can't WAIT to find out what you're having!!

I'm going to say girl! And like Julie, my mom thought I was going to be a boy. When I was born, she even asked the doctor to double check because she was so convinced that I was a boy. It left my parents in a bit of a pickle because then they had to think up a name right away, since they had never even considered having a girl.

Ashley said...

Im feeling boy. But... my mom was suppose to have a girl and four girly showers later, out popped my little brother.

He wore pink sleepers and had a pink diaper bag until he was two.

I hate to give you more to keep you awake at night, but it happens more often than you'd think.... and you should probably have the time to think about it.

What if it was both?

I don't mean twins. I mean being placed in a situation where a decision had to be made by the parents deciding the gender of the child.

I'm gonna go with "Neutral" because my brain is a freakin' mess, and that's the type of stuff it conjures up when the normal path would be to pick one side of the coin when you know damn well a quarter had ridges along it's edge.

Just trying to infuse a bit of the abstract. It's kinda my thing.

We weren't able to find out with our first one (who ended up being a girl) because she was so active and kept her legs crossed. I totally understand your need to KNOW!

I think that whole "a woman can tell" thing is crap. I bet if someone did some actual scientific research on it, correct guesses would come out to about 50%. BUT, just for fun...girl. Coz girls rule and boys drool.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for a GIRL. That is so what I would want if I were in your spot. But regardless, as long as it's healthy I'm sure everything else is just icing on the cake.

I say a healthy boy when I see your tummy but when I look at Jerry I can totally see him with a little girl. So I have to say boy. The chinese birthing calendar was correct for both of my children and all 4 of my sisters kids. You should try some fun little "gender tests" and see if any of them are accurate. Tons of different ones of the internet. Good luck!

I think it is a girl. But hey, I have a 50/50 chance of guessing right!

I agree with wanting to know. A coworker recently had a baby and they waited to find out. The child will be dressed in yellow and green until she is five. No fun not to know what to buy!

Besides wishing you for a healthy baby. I want to say a girl.

Grace said...

there's a wives tale that you can tell if you're having a girl or boy by analyzing your figure from behind. if most of the weight is at the front, it's a boy, however, if can see the weight out at your sides then it's a girl.

it was true with my cousins, so try it out!

i guess i'll say boy

Well, at first I thought, twins, (one of each, of course) but nothing you've said since those early days has hinted of that. So with all that kicking you've been experiencing, I'm inclined to say boy. BUT, this baby is too much like you, Kelly! So GIRL it is!

I could see either/or... like others have said, I'm sure either will provide lots of good comedy for your blogging, but if I were going to make a guess, I'd say boy - mostly because I don't have a big brother, so I would prefer to have a son first, so my girls have a big brother :)

my grandmother used to say if you carried high, it was a girl, if you carried low, it was a boy. As far as I can tell from your pictures, I'd say you're having a boy.

There's a chinese prediction calendar that was right w/ mine and my cousin's babies. You could always check it out. http://www.obfocus.com/calculators/birthchart.htm You can go to the View Calculator link to just click in your info.. But, I think I'm going to go w/ GIRL..Your belly seems low.

I don't think it really matters what sex the baby ends up being. For as long as it's healthy, I know in my heart you'll make a great mom to any infant boy or girl!

PS: Check out my blog for belly shots at 18 weeks 4 days!
