Mission: Mall outing

Today will be Allison's first time going out in public.

As much as I want to cocoon her inside our house forever, protecting her from the world, it suddenly dawned on me that there are only a few weeks until Christmas and we have, oh, nothing purchased for anyone.

I never really gave the holidays much thought while I was in my third trimester. To be fair, I never really gave anything much thought other than getting to the finish line. I guess figured I would be on maternity leave and have plenty of time to shop.

Oh, how naive I was.

I didn't factor in the loads of gear I now have to carry everywhere and the hours it takes to get everything in order before we even step foot outside the house. The hassle alone makes me second-guess traveling anywhere, not to mention the scary reality of dealing with a crying fit as strangers give me death glares or the rigors of having to change a soiled diaper on the go.

But Christmas is on the horizon, and hopefully the mall won't be completely clogged on a Friday afternoon. Besides, she might like the motion of the stroller.

If all else fails, I have a plan -- retreat to a department store dressing room.

And if that fails?

ABORT MISSION IMMEDIATELY. GO HOME. SHOP ONLINE.

I did all of my shopping online while I was sick over Thanksgiving. I'm glad I don't have to go out into the crowds to shop. Really glad.

Good luck!

WHEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEE!
When I used to watch my little cuz, Santino, and my older cuz Cara,(little cuz's mom, we would all go to the mall, so she would have me to help her with changing, and carrying and stuff. Maybe you could get a friend to help out!
TRY IT!

thats what i was about to say! i don't even have kids, and i don't want to go to the mall this time of year. most of the time you can find even better deals online, and get them shipped right where you need them so you can avoid the post office as well. your new baby girl is so precious. you and jerry are so lucky!

Haha, why not start of doing most of your shopping online? Given the circumstances, I would think that would be easier.

You have to come out of the house with Allison sometime... what better than to introduce her to one of your favorite pasttimes?

Aww good luck! Updates!

good luck! at least you can just stick your purchases in the stroller instead of carrying them around, right? =]

Why not just shop online in the first place? Way easier, cheaper, and more pleasant. It's the only way to go.

Good luck! I always dreaded breast feeding in public... but after having to do it so often, you get over it QUICK.

Keep her away from anyone coughing or sneezing.

Damn you're brave!!!

Wash your hands constantly and carry hand sanitizer with you! The worst thing that could happen right now is little baby getting a cold. That sucks big time.

Mine has had a cold for 4 days now and I was up with her all night long...

I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing in life to make you want to kill yourself faster than staying up all night long with a baby who has a bad cold.

Will look forward to reading how your shopping adventure goes!

You can do it!!
My mom took me shopping when I was 4 days old to buy me Christmas presents.
You never know, you might even have fun! Good luck... :)

My sister in law's best friend was the dressing room. Don't look at it as a 'if all else fails' plan. It's your best friend. If Alli's inconsolable? Dressing room. If Alli's hungry? Dressing room. If Kelly's tired? Dressing room. Tired of all the 'aaw!'s..... Dressing room! ;-)

i went clothes shopping with my friend two years ago after she had her first born. olivia was at least a month old and brianna was so nervous about her throwing a fit that she stressed the whole time we were shopping.

she did eventually unleash hell but at least try to remain calm. she'll cry and poop and probably sometime she will poop so forcefully it will shoot right out the top of her onesie. I hear I did this once while wearing a snow suit. HA!

but it will clean, and i'm sure all others have heard screaming babies before. have fun!

Online shopping is better than sliced bread, or in your case better than all that cereal you eat ;)

Seriously, enjoy the time with your new little one, and don't go out. There are lots of germs and crowds, if you want my assvice(another term for unsolicited advice) I would say to stay home and just snuggle and be all warm and cosy.

Have a good time gearing up for the holidays!

Ohhh did you guys get a tree up, what does it look like, I bet you have ornaments that tell a story!

Good luck!
I haven't been online in a few days.
I missed your blogs, lol.
But yeah, good luck!

Why ever leave the house to shop for other people? Online shopping is easier, cheaper, more pleasant, faster, and you can do it in the comfort of your birthday suit.

The great things about babies is that they are amused by everything. You could make a pair of socks dance when they're crying their eyes out and they'll love it.

Make a game plan!

MY, what a brave woman you are to go out there with Alli. I commend you on that and on getting out. Sure you want to protect her from the world, that's a beautiful thing. But, trust me staying at home for a long period of time will drive you nuts! And getting out, if only for a few hours or so is great. Plus if all went well, now you know that when you're tired of the house, that you can just strap her in the stroller and be on your merry way.

And speaking of taking a baby out shopping, I have a baby cousin whose only two months and she goes out shopping more than I do! She's such a great baby so it's a breeze taking her out, I hope the same happens for you with Alli.

On the changing her diaper while out: when all else fails that's what the carriage is also for.

I hope it was a mission accomplished. Can't wait to read the next post.

P.S. I hope no one was rude or a pain in the behind, because with that kind of atmosphere, who want's to around that...?

Love you some Amazon.com if a baby meltdown occurs. Hope all went well!

You won't get any shopping done as everyone will stop you to coo and pull faces and ask you a 101 questions about Alli. I'm on maternity and I've done 99% of my shopping online and only go to shops when I want a browse with no pressure.

Good luck
