The only day it makes sense all year when I call her 'pumpkin'

Earlier this week, we carved pumpkins.

I got a white one for the first time and was
excited to see the guts were different.

Miss Allison wasn't so sure about it at first.

Then she really got into it. Jerry is completely disgusted.

We made a huge mess. Its photos like these
that remind me how much I despise my kitchen floor.

I opted not to get political, but thought of something creative instead.

Because central PA is weird, we trick-or-treat the Thursday before
Halloween. Allison was a flower. I found a watering can for her treat bag.

Our neighbor Nicholas was Darth Vadar. I hadn't thought about it,
but I bet the concept of Halloween is tough to grab for first-timers.

For awhile, we hung out on our front porch
and handed out candy. Toby was a bumblebee.

We saw some awesome costumes.

Allison was content playing with the pumpkins. Mine turned out great, but
we had to crack the lid to get enough oxygen in there to keep the flame lit.

Then we met up with cousins Ben and Emily at
grandma's house and went door-to-door there.

It was so much fun. Happy Halloween!

We still get Halloween on Halloween, The 4th of July on July 4th, but if so and so are elected that will all change. BOO! Just kidding about the nuttniess of the final election daze as my eyes glaze over.

Like your hole filled pumpkin idea, bet the shadows it throws are awesome as the candle flickers. Allison seems so well adjusted to it all, even to realize pumpkins are for eating. "Who needs a pie!"
Happy Halloween!

Very cute!

You're pumpkin came out great. Idea - instead of cracking the lid, you could cut in a chimney. (basically a hole in the lid for venting)

My little Kayla has the same exact Halloween shirt from target. It's so cute!

Happy Halloween!

Thats odd that your 'hood trick or treats on Thursday. I know my area does "trunk or treat". Where kids go to the Church and goes to the trunks of cars to get candy!

Aww, looks like you guys had a great time! I love your white pumpkin. It looks awesome.

I'm at my (newspaper) office dressed as Ms. Sarah from Wasilla. :D Being from Michigan, I can do a fake Minnesota/Alaskan accent quite well. Not too different from Canadian.

AHHH! Allison made quite the cute flower! Haha. =P Love her halloween outfit in the last photo as well. And cool idea for a pumpkin Kelly. I would have never though of that. Also, I never heard of a white pumpkin. When I saw the first photo I thought you guys painted it.

Well, take care.

some towns around here trick-or-treat the day before halloween too.
I asked someone why one time, and they said that it's because the government officials there don't want to celebrate a holiday on the "devil's birthday."
I was like ooookayyyy....
happy halloween!

So I take it y'all didn't go over board on the candy buying this year. Was it last year or the one before when that tub was filled to the brim with sugary goodness for the kids? Still cracks me up to think about it.

What an adorable little girl! I'm a little late reading your blog, and just read the more political posts, and wanted to offer my perspective on abortion (I know, it's definitely NOT the only issue that should be considered this election, but I just wanted to give you my take on it).

Last year, my aunt had a miscarriage. The pain was unbearable for everyone in my family, but I can't even begin to imagine what the pain was like for my aunt in particular. I share her views on abortion now: there are so many women in this world who would do anything for the chance to concieve and carry a child, while there are others who throw that opportunity away, like it's nothing. I feel like those women are taking for granted a precious gift. While I can see how being unprepared to have a child could make finding out you're pregnant more than terrifying, there are women out there who use abortion as a cop out of responsibility.

I'm not judging your political views, or your opinions, or anything, so please don't think I am. I'm just (albeit being a little late) offering my perspective on one of the issues debated on your blog.

I'm a long time reader, and I feel lucky to be able to read about your life, along with your beliefs and views. Keep doing what you're doing!
